This performance centers around three concepts, first is the reclamation of an object that was weaponized against the artist as a child; a jumprope. Second, is the re-imagination of the object through sculptural alterations that turn the object into an actual weapon; barbed wire. Lastly, is the consensual physical engagement with the object in its newly weaponized form for however long the artist’s mind or body can endure. Working on and performing with objects that hold a personal and traumatic history is the artist’s active intention to regain agency over the narratives attached to the objects.
